Broward County runs from Hallandale Beach in the south to Deerfield Beach in the north, and from the Atlantic west until the pavement stops at the Everglades conservation areas. Then the big master-planned subdivisions of the 1980s through the 2000s spread west into Weston, Miramar, Pembroke Pines and Coral Springs, most of them under concrete or clay tile. Add the condo and low-rise buildings on the barrier islands and you have four genuinely different roofing conversations in one county.
What holds it together is the code. Near the coast — Hallandale Beach, Dania Beach, the older parts of Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach — the enemy is salt. Salt air corrodes fasteners, drip edge and flashing years before the roof covering itself gives up, so a coastal specification is not the same as an inland one.
